I finally saw The Wizard of Oz.

Monday Monday, can't trust that day,

Monday Monday, sometimes it just turns out that way

Okay, but let's be honest: this Monday isn't as bad or frustrating as it could be, since it's a Holiday week, which means three-day work weeks for most of us. And for those of you who DON'T get the three day work week, and have to work on Black Friday.....well, sorry 'bout it.

And also *shameless plug* - please, please, please go enter my Erin Condren giveaway!! It's such a great company, and a fantastic product.. I know you'll love it! :)

Moving on... So I had a pretty good weekend, overall, so I'm linking up with Sami to discuss.

On Friday, I worked all day, which was a little complicated, because Boyfriend was sick so he was sleeping on the couch, and I was trying to be quiet.. But we managed, and I still got a lot done, and he started feeling better, so that's awesome. We also had lunch from Panera for the 2nd day in a row, so I'm thinking that might have had something to do with the day being generally good.

On Saturday, Boyfriend went to the library to try to catch up on the work he missed from being sick, and I stayed home and did some more work. Working for yourself is awesome, but sometimes it is hard to tear yourself away from work when it's sitting on your kitchen table staring at you, instead of sitting on your office desk, patiently waiting for you to come in on Monday. I digress..

Saturday afternoon, we went to see "Catching Fire". IT. WAS. AWESOME.

Seriously, it was so amazing. I loved the books, so before the "Hunger Games" movie came out, I was a bit nervous that it might be frustrating for me, but they have done SUCH a good job making the movies match the books! Boyfriend hasn't read them, but when we left the theater, he said that he wanted to go buy the third book in the series right away, because he wanted to know what happened. :)

We also visited a delicious Chinese buffet for dinner that night, and then parked our fat selves on the couch for another movie - "The East". It was really different than what I was expecting, but was still pretty good.

On Sunday morning, we got up and went for a walk through the skyway/subway system in the town, since it was bloody freezing outside, but we had gained like, eleventy billion pounds from the Chinese, and were totally bloated from all the sodium. We explored a bunch of different spots around the city, and got some Starbucks, which you know..is always awesome.

In the afternoon, Boyfriend watched football, but for some reason I just wasn't in the mood/was completely crabby, so I went in the bedroom and watched "The West Wing" on Netflix for a few hours, then went wandering around the town for a while. I stopped at the library and picked up a book, and then went to the mall and got a new pair of jeans and some shirts. I always feel bad getting new clothes, since I have literally no space for them right now, plus I have a bunch more clothes in the storage unit in Vegas, but then I think...um, no, the clothes in Vegas aren't doing me any good right now, and I need some warmer clothes, so I suppose it's okay.

But I do think that having to wear a bra on a Sunday should be some kind of stupid punishment for people who did bad things during the week. The same goes for having to wear pants. And I know, I know, I didn't have to leave the house, but I was grumpy and restless, so I think it turned out better for all involved parties for me to take my crabby ass somewhere else until I turned my mood around.

And then when I got home, we watched the "Wizard of Oz" on TV, which was awesome, since in all my born days, I had never seen it. And now I can scratch it off the list of movies Boyfriend thinks are amazing/classic but I haven't seen because I grew up under a rock. :)

Weekend Update

weekend update
{source}

So, it's Monday again. Which is kind of awesome (new week, new beginnings and all that), and kind of awful, all at the same time. I don't think the awful part needs any kind of explanation, does it? Cuz hating Mondays is basically like, a universal thing? Okay, moving on.

So I had a pretty great weekend, and in the spirit of remembering awesome things and forgetting about the crappiness that is Monday, I'm linking up with Miss Shenanigans to tell you all about it.

On Friday, I was so ready to be done with work and my week. I do not particularly enjoy my job right now, though I am incredibly grateful for it, so Fridays are like, the best thing ever. Anyway, so I got home, and Boyfriend and I decided to go out for a walk, and then go to the YMCA for a swim and hot tub excursion. It was basically amazing, even though I kind of find hot tubs a little bit gross, especially when people get in them all sweaty and gross. But whatever, the hot water felt nice, and I was able to shower afterwards, so I went with it. We got dinner at Applebee's, and then rented a movie that night. I even stayed awake through almost the whole thing! Progress, people.

On Saturday morning, we got up and spent about an hour and a half deep cleaning the apartment. Not my favorite way to spend the day, but it was desperately needed, and it looked so nice afterwards! I spent most of the rest of the day doing some work for a client, and then we watched "Tombstone" in the afternoon, which Boyfriend has been wanting me to watch for a long time because he says it's "the best movie ever". I don't know if I'd go all the way to "ever", but it was pretty good.

Then on Saturday night, we went to a painting class at the local wine and paint place. I had been looking forward to going and painting this The piece looked really difficult, so I was kind of nervous, but I'm really happy with the way my painting turned out! If you follow me on Instagram, you've already seen it, but just in case you haven't, here's my finished product:

Clearly, my photography skills need some work.
We played a game of cribbage after we got home. I totally won, by the way. I'm getting good at this game! :)
On Sunday, aka Fat Sunday in our house, we started the day with a delicious brunch at The Green Mill. Side note: I love brunch. I think there is something just fantastic about the idea of being able to get breakfast and lunch type foods at the same time, and not having to pick one meal over another. I like them both! Anyway, then we both parked our butts in the living room, where I commenced doing a bunch more work, and Boyfriend commenced watching football, as is his Sunday tradition. I ended up taking a nap later in the day, which was glorious. People don't nap enough these days, I think. That was followed by Chipotle for dinner, then some more football and random TV until we fell asleep.

How was your weekend?

Monday, Monday...

Oh hey, happy Monday, everybody. Who’s ready to party this week?!
I totally am, because I get to go on a vacation this weekend to a lake that I thought was in Nebraska, but apparently is actually in Iowa. Either way, I’m freaking psyched. More on that after the fact, I would imagine. But I mean other than that, this is basically how I felt about this morning:

...Especially because I had such an awesome weekend. On Friday, I started my first day at my new (temp) job. I really enjoyed it, which is always nice. It was a pretty tiring day, just because of all the learning I had to do, but overall, not a bad gig. Friday night, Boyfriend and I had a delicious dinner, and then nice time walking around the city, taking in some of the sights. It was such a nice date night….Yay for relaxing quality time with my favorite boy! J

On Saturday, we went to the library for a few hours in the morning. Boyfriend had some OT work he needed to get done, and I just went for the fun of it. We were planning to go to the beach afterwards, but then the sun went away and it was kind of cold, so we nixed that idea. We tried to go to a pet store to play with puppies, since I kind of have puppy fever right now for some reason, but apparently, there are no pet stores in this town that actually sell puppies. Not sure if I buy that, though, so we are going to keep looking.

Saturday night was spent drinking and painting at one of those wine and paint places. Oh, what fun we had! You can see the photographic evidence of our incredible talent here, and here, and here. I may or may not have had three glasses of wine on an empty stomach and been a wee bit drunk by the time the night was over, too. When we were walking back down the street to the car carrying our paintings, we got stopped by some ladies who wanted to know all about it, so we got to show off a little bit, too. Then we Boyfriend watched “Horrible Bosses” (for the first time ever) while I fell asleep on the couch at like, 10pm, like a loser cute puppy..
On Sunday, I was up crazy early for some reason, but it worked out okay because I was able to read a whole entire book by like, noon, yay for me. Then we did the three loads of laundry that had been piled up in the corner of the bedroom because we have been lazy lately and not at all on top of things like stupid laundry. And then I went to the mall for a few hours, while Boyfriend stayed home and watched baseball (or something equally boring). I got myself a new black maxi skirt and a white shirt that I can wear to work, so that was fun. Then we went and played some Frisbee golf, which was sort of fun. Definitely not a game I think I would enjoy playing again, but I only actually threw on two of the holes, and then I just wandered around behind Boyfriend while he did the rest, and that was fun, so I think I could get on bored with tagging along in the future, at least.

Sunday night was totally lazy – we watched “Horrible Bosses” again (and yes, I slept through the middle part, again), and flexed our culinary muscles by making frozen pizza for dinner. I know. We are amazing. Actually, Boyfriend taught me that broiling a frozen pizza for like, a minute after they’re done cooking makes the top of it crispy, and makes the entire thing ridiculously delicious. Go try it right now. I’ll be sure to pass along your compliments to the chef when you come back to rave about how freaking good broiled pizza is.

And that, my friends, pretty much sums it up! How was your weekend??

4th of July and Weekend Recap

weekend shenanigans

I had THE BEST 4th of July I’ve had in such a long time this year! I went with Boyfriend to one of his brother’s houses in Nebraska. K lives on a lake and has a boat, and as soon as Boyfriend told me that, I was pretty much completely sold on the idea. (Not that I wouldn’t have wanted to go just to visit with his family, as well, but the lake/boat thing definitely helped! J)

We left for Nebraska on Wednesday. Because we had a six and a half hour drive ahead of us, I had gotten a book on tape from the library (Harvest, by Tess Gerritsen. I highly recommend it!), and had made a CD full of 80’s songs, since that’s Boyfriend’s favorite genre. We had a blast rocking out to some 80’s jams, and discussing the book, trying to figure out the plot twists.

When we got to K’s house, we immediately got all the kids together and headed out on the boat for a while. I was a little nervous about swimming, since I am such a freak about water where I can’t see what’s around me, but I got over that pretty quickly in favor of floating around in the cool water.

When we got back to the house, another one of Boyfriend’s brothers, T, had arrived with his family, so K immediately started in on grilling steaks and potatoes for dinner. Delicious! The rest of us enjoyed some drinks on the deck while K was cooking. I had a pretty embarrassing moment when I managed to knock an entire glass of Bloody Mary all over Boyfriend’s mom and her white shorts….whoops. I had met her for the first time that day, as well, which made the whole thing worse since I was trying so hard to make a good impression. Thankfully, she was pretty cool about it though, so I got over it pretty quickly.

On Thursday, we were of course out on the boat again! K had borrowed a pontoon from a friend as well, so we could get our whole group of 17 people out at the same time. We tied the boats together and got down to the business of enjoying the day! I, in typical Jordan fashion, managed to fall pretty spectacularly while trying to step from one boat to the other, and now I have a beautiful red, white, and blue bruise on the inside of my thigh. How very patriotic of me. :-/

We didn’t end up going out on the water to watch the fireworks that night, since there really wasn’t enough space for all of us to go out there safely (and legally), but we were lucky enough to be able to spend the evening in the lakeside backyard of one of K’s wife’s friends, so we still got an amazing show. There were a lot of private fireworks happening at the same time, so we actually got to see fireworks from every direction! Fireworks are basically one of my most favorite things, too, so I was ridiculously happy with the show.

I tried tubing for the first time in my life on Friday. All of Boyfriend’s nephews that were there went before me, and did it beautifully – no falls, no flips, nothing. Then I came along…..and fell off twice. Yep. Even the little six year old did it better than I did! (#Embarrassing.) I got a few new bruises from hitting the tube and the water, but thankfully, (apart from my wounded pride) those were the worst of my injuries.

We came back from Nebraska on Saturday, and spent the evening laying low and recovering from our vacation. Side note: does anyone else ever need to spend a day or two recovering/relaxing after a vacation that was supposed to be relaxing on its own?? We were both totally drained from all the sun and fun we had experienced, so it was an early night for us.

On Sunday, my dad emailed me and asked if I was around so he could fly up here and say hi, so we headed out to the airport to meet him. We ended up going flying with him for a while, which was awesome. I always love flying with my dad.
